94.7 Highveld Stereo in partnership with MTN had a lot of us up bright and early to be at the Highveld Stereo studios on Friday morning. Why? To officially launch Joburg Day 2013 happening on 14 September 2013 at Crocodile Creek Polo Club.
Darren Simpson and the rest of the Breakfast Xpress crew revealed MTN as their partner for this year’s Joburg Day, as well as confirming some of the acts for the day.
Joburg Day 2013
After an awesome Joburg Day in 2012 this year’s will be just as awesome, if not better! Some of the acts for the day include The Parlotones, GoldFish, Locnville, Lloyd Cele, Blackbyrd, Elvis Blue, Jack Parow and Daniel Baron to name a few.

If you’ve been following the local music scene, went to the Bon Jovi concert in Jozi this last saturday, or even been tuning into 94.7 Highveld Stereo‘s Kia Take40Sa, by now you should have heard about Daniel Baron. With an awesome colab with ProVerb on a song from Daniel’s debut album entitled “It’s Time” comes “Not Here” – Daniel Baron feat. ProVerb. This past Sunday was the third of the 947Unplugged events at The Venue in Melrose Arch – The 947Unplugged with Elvis Blue and Stuart Reece thanks to 94.7 Highveld Stereo and Real Concerts… No, this wasn’t an Elvis tribute concert, like the story Elvis Blue related during the show, it was an Elvis Blue unplugged session, with Stuart Reece opening up the night.
With Mark Pilgrim as MC for the night, the venue filled with fans and friends and a close, intimate setting, Stuart Reece and Elvis Blue played some of their best songs, with some new songs in the mix too. Despite having a baby girl only a few days before, Elvis Blue put in an excellent show, even coming back to perform 2 more encore songs for the fans.
Another awesome night, as expected thanks to 94.7 Highveld Stereo and Real Concer... Read More
Last week this time I was at The Venue in Melrose Arch with 94.7 Highveld Stereo
and Real Concerts… And we all went wireless, yet again. Yup, I was busy having a blast while Daniel Baron and Dan Patlansky were rocking out on stage, unplugged (See where I get the “wireless” thing from now? No? Anyways, tally-ho-James)…
With The Venue sold out and a capacity crowd packed in between the stage and available bars, Daniel Baron opened the show with 6 songs from his album, “It’s Time”, with Dan Patlansky showing the crowd what he can do on a guitar… And trust me, this guy can play a guitar, while playing some songs off of his new acoustic album “Wooden Thoughts.”
You missed the show? Well, first of all, shame on you!… But, there are two more events are on the way… Next in the line-up for the 947U... Read More
South Korea has done it again… No, not another nuclear bomb threat like we’ve heard in the last few weeks…. South Korea’s very own Gangnam Style superstar has released his new song, “Gentleman” by PSY.
Since it’s release Gangnam style has done a whopping 1 526 012 118 views on YouTube. Since the release of PSY’s new song “Gentleman” on the 13th of April, it’s done 51 099 852 views on YouTube and it’s growing by the second.
Could PSY be giving some tips on how to find a girl? First we need to use our inner Gangnam Style, then be Gentleman? Hmmmmm…

This past Sunday I got to attend 94.7 Higveld Stereo’s first show of the 947Unplugged series of shows happening at The Venue in Melrose Arch.
This first event featured Zander Tyler, better known as Jack Parow who took to the stage to perform for his fans in a slightly different setting… An unplugged live session. With an opening act by Die Tuindwergies and an awesome show by the mad hatter, Jack Parow himself, the first night of the 947Unplugged events, in association with Real Concerts, Computicket and The Venue Melrose Arch set off to an epic start.
In the build-up just over a week ago, 5Gum alluded to the reveal of the latest #5GumExperience. In news that broke last week, it became official… The Kooks will headline the #5GumExperience that will be hitting Jo’burg on 19 April in and Cape Town on 20 April.

There’s no doubt that 2012 was a year to remember, for good or for worse. Who thought we would see 2013, with the Mayan apocalypse conspiracy and all that? Lying in bed last night and unable to sleep and awaiting the beginning of the work starting on the 7th of January, it got me thinking about the year that had passed and what some of the highlights and lowlights were for me personally, and for everyone as a whole. Some events in the 2012 may have affected, for better or worse, some more than others.
I started thinking of my great-grandmother, one of my good friends Tegan and another friend of mine Jamin who passed away this year… All sad memories... Read More
The new album by Crash Car Burn was released on the 22nd of October 2012, and if you haven’t already got a copy, I’d strongly recommend that you do! Not sure who CrashCarBurn is? Do song names like “Twisted”, “Serenade”, “Skin Versus Bone” or “Heroes” ring any bells?
The new single “The Light” was released and made available as a free download via the Crash Car Burn Facebook page and a mobile link on the 6th of October. The catch? Like the Crash Car Burn Facebook Page and send a tweet. What’s the harm in that? And in my opinion a very cool idea and clever way to promote the launch of the CD before it’s released. The new album is considered one of the band’s best albums to-date and has that typical Crash Car Burn sound to it.
The band is launching the album at ... Read More
